DCC Water Restrictions (as of 13.00 Monday 31st January 2011)

The daily water demand in the Greater Dublin Region is running at approximately 20 Million Litres per day greater than normal and this is putting great pressure on drinking water storage levels. As a result the current pressure reduction regime that is in place will be continued until Thursday next (Thursday 3rd February).

There is no plan at this stage to reintroduce shuts, however there will be a general pressure reduction across the city and this will be restricted in most cases to the over night period so as to minimise the impact on consumers, and close monitoring will continue.

The situation will be further reviewed on Thursday afternoon and a decision made at that stage as to what regime of pressure restrictions (and shuts if necessary) will be needed for the rest of the week.

At this stage Dublin City Council would like to thank all its consumers for their patience and cooperation during the period of the restrictions.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this is helping to improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard (contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and alterations are made where possible so as to minimise the impact on consumers.
A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties; we would ask all property owners to check for leaks on their property as soon as is possible, bearing in mind that some leaks may not be visible.
Dublin City Council appeals to the owners/operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis. Similarly, we ask owners of private cars to refrain from washing them for the moment.
The following locations may experience loss of supply due to localised problems.

Labour seeks mandate to ensure bondholders share burden: Press Release by Labours Finance Spokesperson, Joan Burton

It appears now that Anglo Irish Bank are going to pay back bonds issued in 2006 for €750 million, a sum very close to the sum total of the welfare cuts in the Budget.

The investors who bought these bonds are being fully recompensed. They will share no part of the burden for the losses made by Anglo when the bank lent this money on to property developers.
Instead, because of Fianna Fáil's failed banking policy, those losses are being picked up by the tax payer
The €750 million being paid today was borrowed five years ago - on the 17th of January 2006 at the height of the property boom.

Most likely these were professional investors, who were supposed to be responsible for assessing the risks associated with lending money to Anglo. They were supposed to be responsible for making judgments about the bank that was borrowing their money, about who ran it, what type of lending it did, and the economy it was lending into.

They were supposed to be responsible for assessing those risks, because, if anything went wrong, they were supposed to carry some share of the burden.

Now it has all gone wrong, and still these investors are getting away scot free

The bond being paid tomorrow is senior unsecured debt.

It is not now covered by any State Guarantee.

Labour is campaigning for a mandate to ensure bond-holders such as these share the burden of the losses in the banks. Burden sharing for bank losses has become central to debates within the Eurozone and now has the clear support of the IMF. A new Irish Government will have to engage fully after the election in pursuing this option.

The Irish people didn't create the mess that is Anglo, but they are being forced by Fianna Fáil to carry the

DCC Water Restrictions (as of 13.00 Monday 17th January 2011)

Due to the continued improvement in drinking water storage levels and in the water supply/demand balance, a further easing of restrictions is now possible.

There will be no shuts imposed tonight (Monday 17th January) or tomorrow night (Tuesday 18th January). There will be a general pressure reduction across the city and this will be restricted in most cases to the over night period so as to minimise the impact on consumers.

The situation will be further reviewed on Wednesday morning and a decision made at that stage as to what regime of shuts/pressure restrictions will be needed for the rest of the week.

Updated details of the restrictions through to Wednesday (19th Jan) morning are set out below.

The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and alterations are made where possible so as to minimise the impact on consumers.

A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties; DCC have asked all property owners to check for leaks on their property as soon as is possible, bearing in mind that some leaks may not be visible.

Dublin Bus To Leave Ballymun Residents Stranded

Local Labour Councillor John Lyons has criticised Dublin Bus’s proposed changes to its Ballymun bus service. Over the past year Dublin Bus has been carrying out a review of its entire bus network throughout the City. As part of this, Dublin Bus intends to combine bus routes 13 and 13a into one bus route (No. 13), which will run from Ikea, Ballymun to Clondalkin. The new route 13 will no longer serve Sillogue, Coultry and Shangan.

According to Cllr. John Lyons, “ this new proposed route is unacceptable as it will no longer service three of the four residential areas in Ballymun. Dublin Bus’s proposals are meeting the needs of the company, rather than the public that it is there to serve. There are Senior Citizens’ complexes in both Sillogue and Coultry who are now expected to walk to the main street if they wish to travel by bus.”
Cllr. Lyons stated that the public consultation period for this is far too short and started at the most inappropriate time possible. “ Dublin Bus opened its one month consultation period on the 23rd December; a time when people are preparing for Christmas and have things other than proposed changes to bus routes on their mind. I think this was very inconsiderate of Dublin Bus and I have requested that the consultation period be extended to allow people time to have their say”

“Although I understand the concept of a more direct bus service, I think this is really a fancy name to cover up the fact that Dublin Bus has made drastic cut backs to its services due to a lack of government funding and falling passenger numbers. In 2009, 120 buses were taken out of service from the Dublin Bus fleet and another 90 in 2010.”

In response to the proposed changes to the bus route 13 and 13a, Cllr Lyons has urged local residents to contact Dublin Bus and have their say. “ I will writing to Dublin Bus expressing my dissatisfaction with its Ballymun bus route proposals and I urge local residents to do the same”

DCC Water Restrictions (as of 13.00 Wednesday 12th January 2011)

The water supply situation continues to improve and drinking water storage levels have recovered sufficiently to allow an easing of the restrictions.

Areas subject to ‘shut offs’ will now be rotated with supply being maintained one night in three. The period for shuts continues at 7pm to 7am. Areas subject to ‘Pressure reductions with possible loss of supply’ will also have the restrictions eased, as a result the number of areas loosing supply will reduce and the periods of low pressures will also reduce.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this is helping to improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard (contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. DCC Water Restrictions Monday 3rd January

DCC Water Restrictions (as of 13.45 Monday 3rd January 2011)

The improvement in the supply demand balance continued over the weekend and storage levels of drinking water again improved. The combination of restrictions, mains repairs, the shutting down and repair of private side leaks along with the co-operation of consumers is contributing to the improvement. Details of the restrictions through to Wednesday (5th Jan) are set out below.
The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and some restrictions are being eased to the worst affected areas.

A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties empty over the holiday period. All key holders throughout the city should return to their premises, especially schools, as soon as possible to check for leaks on their property.

Tankers have been sent to the following locations Monday 3rd January 2011 (10:00 until 16:00):
· Artane Castle, Shopping Centre (Off Skellys lane), Coolock.
· Hampton Wood, St. Margarets Rd,
· Captains Rd, Crumlin
· Blackhall Place, Smithfield
· We will also have a number of mobile tankers available to respond to areas as needed.

These locations may change in response to need. We would ask consumers to bring their own containers.
